Estate Planning from a Biblical Perspective

The most basic and underlying goal of our website, seminars, books and other writings is to emulate the Bible on the subject of estate planning stewardship and to teach that concept to others.

  • It is our dream to do this using our spiritual gifts and professional knowledge in a way that will not only help other Christians understand the importance of obedience to Christ in this area of stewardship in their lives, but to also create an evangelical opportunity to share the wonders and glory of God with non-believers. (Eph 4:11, Luke 12:48).

  • Our approach is to use real life stories, nursery rhymes, unique visual aids (mostly in our seminars and in upcoming books) as well as Scripture references in ways that make the complex area of estate planning and the distinctions found in secular versus biblical or loving trust estate planning easy for our readers and audiences to understand in reference to their personal circumstances.

  • There are, in fact, over 300 Bible verses on this topic. Yet, nearly 95% of the adults in our society (including Christians) have not done any estate planning, or have done so from a secular perspective that is inadequate in its focus and completeness!

  • The focus of the Bible on this topic is that estate planning should be done with love, care and attention to detail, focusing on values that go beyond material possessions. (Luke 12:15, 1 Tim 5:8 and 1 Cor 13). It should not be left to chance or dealt with halfheartedly. (Isa 38:1)

  • Though those elements are just as true and valuable to the non-Christian as they are to believers, one additional factor should be emphasized for disciples of Christ... to wit: biblical estate planning is a stewardship responsibility equal to if not greater than lifetime tithing.

  • It is clear from the Bible that every adult individual and couple, whether wealthy, poor or somewhere in between; (Matt 25:14) and regardless of the ages or makeup of their families, should have an estate plan of some kind. It’s just a matter of finding the right "fit" and customizing the plan according to their circumstances and goals consistent with biblical teaching.

  • The true wonder and amazement of the Bible on this topic, however, is its analogy (almost in a parable-like manner) of the earthly inheritance process to the greatest inheritance of all… eternal life through salvation with Jesus Christ. (Acts 20:32, Heb 9:15, Eph 1:18).

  • Consistent with that analogy, the Bible can, in our opinion, be considered to be the most complete estate plan ever written. It not only has structure and purpose similar to a truly comprehensive and people based loving trust plan, but provides excellent guidance for couples and individuals to emulate when doing their own estate planning. It is that analogy that provides the foundation of our ministry and practice.
